
About the Next Generation of Teachers Program
St. Mary’s University invites dedicated high school juniors and seniors interested in becoming teachers to apply for the Next Generation of Teachers program. This opportunity offers mentorship, academic support and a clear path to a career in teaching for students majoring in education or pursuing an undergraduate teaching certificate. High school juniors can apply for conditional acceptance* to St. Mary’s, and seniors apply for full admission.
Apply to the Next Generation of Teachers Program

Eligibility Criteria
High School Juniors

Upon successful completion of the steps below, students will be awarded conditional acceptance* to St. Mary’s:
- Complete the Next Generation of Teachers program application (available from your high school counselor)
- Attend a scheduled interview with St. Mary’s faculty and staff
- Maintain a 2.75 GPA and a 92% attendance rate for your junior year
- Attend Next Gen program meetings and events
- Submit your SAT, ACT or TSI scores
*Conditional acceptance does not guarantee full admission to the University and is dependent on completion of the St. Mary’s Application for Admission during the student’s senior year.
High School Seniors

Upon successful completion of the steps below, students will be considered for full admission to St. Mary’s and acceptance to the Next Generation of Teachers program:
- Complete the St. Mary’s application for admission
- Attend a scheduled interview with St. Mary’s faculty and staff
- Maintain a 2.75 GPA and a 92% attendance rate for your senior year
- Attend Next Gen program meetings and events
- Submit your SAT, ACT or TSI scores and your Accuplacer score if you have not already
- Submit your enrollment confirmation and deposit
- Meet with a St. Mary’s adviser to discuss fall class enrollment

ACT
- Reading + English: ≥40
- Math: ≥22
Accuplacer
- St. Mary’s Accuplacer: ≥216
SAT
- Reading + Writing: ≥480
- Math: ≥530
TSI
- Minimum score of 950
- If less than 950:
- Diagnostic Level 6 on the Mathematics test
- A score of 945 on the multiple-choice section
- An essay score of 5-8
- If less than 945 on the multiple-choice section:
- Diagnostic level of 5 or 6
- Essay score of 5-8
