University Mission Statement
St. Mary’s University, as a Catholic Marianist University, fosters the formation of people in faith and educates leaders for the common good through community, integrated liberal arts and professional education, and academic excellence.
The St. Mary’s University mission statement is a reflection of the Characteristics of Marianist Universities. There are five elements that characterize the Marianist approach to education:
- Educate for formation in faith
- Provide an integral quality education
- Educate in the family spirit
- Educate for service, justice and peace, and integrity of creation
- Educate for adaptation and change
A Catholic University
The Center for Catholic Studies helps students and faculty explore social policy issues and examine the Catholic Church in society and culture. The Center hosts numerous events each year and provides resources for those wishing to research such topics.
The three Marianist universities have a publication titled Characteristics of Marianist Universities (digital flipbook) to fully describe the Marianist approach to education at the university level.
Gateway Strategic Plan
The strategic plan, Gateway: A Vision for St. Mary’s University, calls us as a Catholic and Marianist institution to become one of the finest private universities in the region, a gateway for our graduates to professional lives as ethical leaders in Texas, the nation and the world. Its goals and objectives will serve as a blueprint for the institution through 2020 as it challenges each of us to pursue and promote excellence.
