Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in Political Science from St. Mary’s
The Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in Political Science provides an opportunity for high school instructors to be credentialed to teach Dual Credit Government courses. Teaching dual credit courses almost immediately raises the income-earning potential of high school educators and expands career options to include community college teaching.
Designed as a cohorted program with meaningful faculty interaction, the certificate meets credentialing standards set by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) for dual credit instructors. Offered in partnership with Northwest Vista College, Northside Independent School District, and Northeast Independent School District, the program begins in June 2025 and concludes in May 2026.

Program of Study
This certificate program provides high school educators with a broad and rigorous foundation in American government, political institutions, and classical and contemporary political thought. This 18-credit hour, fully online asynchronous program equips students with the content knowledge and disciplinary expertise required to teach college-level government courses in Texas high schools.

Cost and Financial Aid
The Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in Political Science is offered at a fixed rate of $12,000, which includes tuition, required fees and course materials. Students enrolled in graduate certificate programs are not currently eligible to receive federal or state financial assistance. Military, dependents of military members and Department of Defense employees may be eligible for a tuition discount. Employers may also offer tuition assistance to their employees.
