Why St. Mary’s University?
Though St. Mary’s is a Catholic university, our commitment to openness, justice, humility and service is universal — which is why our education speaks to each of our 3,500 students, who come from all faiths or no faith at all.
Marianist Values
A St. Mary’s education is built around the Marianist tradition of educating ethical leaders for the common good. It’s a commitment that starts with a top-notch education: St. Mary’s is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and many individual programs have specialized accreditation as well.
Focus on Experiential Learning
Your education starts in the classroom, but it won’t end there. Through research, internships, service learning and other civic engagement, each of our programs incorporates experiential learning opportunities that deepen your understanding of the subject material and the world in which you’ll work.
Graduate Center for Excellence
Graduate study is challenging. Get the support you need to thrive at our Graduate Center for Excellence, where you can collaborate with other students, improve your research and writing skills, and find resources devoted to housing, health and wellness, and other aspects of your academic and personal life

Graduate Financial Aid and Scholarships
A St. Mary’s education is an investment in your future: Graduates of Catholic colleges aren’t just more likely to report a strong sense of belonging and mental health — they also experience greater financial returns than those who graduate from secular schools.
Our Office of Financial Assistance is committed to helping you secure the resources to make this investment. You may qualify for federal student loans, internships or other graduate scholarships and assistantships that can ease the burden of paying for a graduate degree.

The philosophy of St. Mary’s University, being welcoming to all, drew me in. The University has a very diverse student population. Some are Catholic, and some are not. Everyone gets treated the same and shares their different points of view.”
