The Lin Great Speakers Series is presented to the public as a community service. The lectures are made possible by an endowment established in memory of Shu-Chi Lin by his widow, Mrs. Chang Le-Chiao Lin, and their son, Vincent Lin, Ph.D., a St. Mary’s alumnus and former faculty member.

    The Rev. Casey Cole, OFM, is a Franciscan friar and Catholic priest. He has worked as a chaplain to universities, a high school and an elementary school, served as the parochial vicar and administrator of a parish, and traveled the country offering talks and lectures. Cole is well known for his online presence, producing videos on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, and is the author of four books.

Reverend John Nepil

Rev. John Nepil is a priest in Denver, Colorado, and a member of the priestly association of the Companions of Christ. Having completed a doctorate in dogmatic theology at the Pontifical University of Santa Croce in Rome, he now serves as professor of theology at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary and as parochial vicar to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Denver. He has published articles in Communio, Logos, The New Ressourcement and other journals, as well as being the author of two books: A Bride Adorned: The Mary-Church Perichoresis in Modern Catholic Theology and To Heights and Unto Depths: Letters from the Colorado Trail.

Beyond Burnout Culture

Jonathan Malesic

We work and work and work and do not get ahead. Worse, work can take over our lives. This is what happened to Jonathan Malesic, Ph.D., so he quit his job and sought out a better way to live. In this talk, he will share what he learned. Drawing on his book, The End of Burnout: Why Work Drains Us and How to Build Better Lives, Malesic proposes that we should ground our working lives in human dignity, compassion for workers and a greater emphasis on leisure as a meaningful activity. He will show how these ideals are rooted in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition and manifested in communities of Benedictine monks and religious sisters.
