San Antonio – Two St. Mary’s athletes have received honors for their abilities – and this time from one of the most important panels: their peers.

Stephanie Proske and Marcin Marczewski were named this year’s St. Mary’s Outstanding Student-Athletes of the Year following a vote of their fellow student-athletes across all of St. Mary’s sports teams.

And as Proske’s and Marczewski’s backgrounds show, they were quite the right selection for the honor.

Proske (La Grange, Texas) excelled on the court last season, leading the Rattlers to an historic 10-0 start, as well as their first winning season since 2006, and setting individual records along the way. Her dynamite of an arm earned her St. Mary’s best single-season hitting percentage of all time at .323. Proske led the Rattlers in hits (274), hitting percentage (.323) and blocks (82), rightfully being honored as the All-Heartland Conference Selection for the second year running as well as the St. Mary’s Female Athlete of the Year.

The green courts of St. Mary’s tennis sanctum produced one of the Rattlers’ most decorated and talented players, Marcin Marczewski, who stood alongside Proske as the Male Athlete of the Year. Marczewski (Warsaw, Poland) was the strong force of the Rattlers last season, helping them to a No. 2 seed in the conference standings and a shot at the championship crown. The Texas-culture-embracing Marczewski landed three Heartland Conference Player of the Week awards, the coveted Heartland Conference Outstanding Senior honor and was selected to the All-Conference Team.

The Rattler athletic careers of Proske and Marczewski ended this year and just as they did in their own respective seasons of volleyball and tennis, they shined in their post-season as St. Mary’s Student-Athletes of the Year.
