Frustrated about water issues? Not sure how to vote on Proposition 6?

St. Mary’s University will host “Water: Now What?” – a Texas Tribune panel discussion focused on state water spending and infrastructure – on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013.

In November, Texans will be asked to vote on Proposition 6 and other amendments to the state constitution. In response, the Texas Tribune has organized a three-city series to help Texans better understand the issue. The other events will be in October in Houston and Dallas.

The conversation will feature state Rep. Lyle Larson, of the House Natural Resources Committee, and Robert Puente, president of the San Antonio Water System.

University President Thomas Mengler will introduce moderator Evan Smith, Editor in Chief and CEO of the Texas Tribune. The event will be held in Conference Room A of the University Center and will be free to the public. A light lunch will be served.

Larson served two terms as a San Antonio city councilman starting in 1991 and as a Bexar County commissioner from 1997 to 2008. In 2010, he was elected to serve District 122 in the Texas House. Currently, he serves as vice chairman of the Local and Consent Calendars Committee, and he is a member of the Culture, Recreation and Tourism; Transparency in State Agency Operations; and Natural Resources committees.

Puente was appointed president and CEO of SAWS in November 2008. As chief executive of one of the nation’s largest utilities, he provides leadership in delivering water and wastewater services to more than 1.6 million consumers, developing new water resources, continuing infrastructure upgrades and building regional partnerships. Puente previously served in the Texas House and chaired the Natural Resources Committee.
