Earn a Certificate in Public History from St. Mary’s
The Graduate Certificate in Public History is a 12-credit-hour program for professionals and educators who are interested in advancing their careers in Public History but do not wish to pursue a full master’s degree.
Students are required to take 3 credit hours of a core Public History course and 9 credit hours of electives within the program covering topics such as heritage tourism, digital media, museums, GIS and more.

Educators interested in teaching dual credit U.S. History courses may pursue a graduate certificate through the Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in U.S. History Program.
St. Mary’s also offers a Master of Arts in Public History for professionals and educators.

What can I do with a Certificate in Public History?
With a Certificate in Public History, students can explore work in a variety of fields, including heritage tourism, museums, archives, parks and recreation, digital storytelling, education, historical preservation and tourism. Students gain skills in a variety of fields, including research, historical interpretation, storytelling, curation, collaboration and more.

Build Valuable Skillsets
Others have continued on to Ph.D. programs in History and Public History or to specialized degrees in archives and library sciences. Current practitioners in public history fields may also earn a Certificate in Public History to add new skills to their portfolio and train in new areas.
