Biography
Kathe Lehman-Meyer is currently a Visiting Associate Professor and Department Chair for the Communication Studies Department. She teaches a variety courses which include Public Speaking, Argumentation and Debate, Senior Capstone, Communication Theory, Internship Course, Organizational Communications and Media Production. She has advised the award-winning Rattler Student Newspaper. During the pandemic, she taught several career skills courses through local non-profit Project Quest to help displaced individuals find new employment.
For eighteen years, before moving into a full-time teaching position, Lehman-Meyer was the Director of the Academic Media Center (AMC), and an adjunct faculty member. In her AMC role, she gave workshops on average to more than a thousand faculty, staff and students each year. Lehman-Meyer managed a small staff and 18-20 student assistants. During the 2020-21 academic year, she was the Interim Director of the Najim Center for Innovation and Social Responsibility assisting in the management of eight student projects for small businesses and non-profit organizations in the westside of San Antonio.
Lehman-Meyer enjoys sharing her 25 years of corporate communications, marketing and broadcasting experience with her students. In 2014, along with one of her students, she earned a regional Emmy Award for a project with the local Univision TV Station.
Her last position before joining St. Mary’s University, was VP of Marketing for Nationwide Retirement Solutions where she ran the Education Company, managing teams that supported marketing, communication and training for the retirement enrollment of two million public employees throughout the United States.
Prior to that role, she was Creative Services Director for Nationwide Insurance and Financial Services. One of her responsibilities included implementing a new branding strategy with a logo redesign. During her time at Nationwide her internal branding work earned her two National Awards: Gold Quill (Public Relations Society of America) and Silver Anvil (International Association of Business Communicators). She also is a media consultant.
If asked, Lehman-Meyer would tell you that sharing the Marianist Charism with the campus community is her true passion, along with helping students understand their true potential, especially if they struggle with learning challenges. She is a Marianist Educational Associate and has been honored with the highest University honor, the Marianist Heritage Award.
Lehman-Meyer’s service dog, named Tater Tot, has been dual trained for therapy to also help members of the campus community, when he isn’t helping her reduce the pain of fibromyalgia. She enjoys gifting several students each semester upon their graduation with her shoe award. This award symbolizes their journey together toward the student’s graduation and the student’s ability to overcome obstacles. Lehman-Meyer has been doing this for 16 years, and has recognized more than 100 students.
Originally from the Northeast, Lehman-Meyer has a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Management and a Master of Arts degree in International Media, as well as a Certification in Gerontology, all from Ohio University. At the completion of her undergraduate degree, she was selected by the International Radio and Television Society (IRTS) to attend their annual conference for the 25 media/journalism students in the United States. As a faculty member, she was selected to again attend the IRTS Faculty Summit to educate faculty about the changing industry standards.
She also holds an Interior Design Certification from St. Mary’s University. She is also a certified Compassion Integrity Training instructor through Life University in Georgia.
