Thomas Macrini
Interim Dean Thomas Macrini

On behalf of the students, faculty, staff and administration of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology at St. Mary’s University, I welcome you to browse our website and explore our quality programs that are designed to provide you with a competitive advantage as you enter the workforce or continue your education through graduate or professional studies.

Small class sizes, hands-on learning with state-of-the-art equipment, personal attention from our highly qualified and dedicated faculty and staff, and close ties to the professional community are hallmarks of our school. Our Marianist, Catholic heritage and approach to education focuses on excellence within your discipline and your development as a whole person. This student-centered, service-oriented environment will call upon you to analyze problems and conduct scientific inquiry within the framework of moral and ethical considerations. Our students hone their technical and professional skills by presenting their work at regional and national conferences.

Our curriculum includes “hands-on” or experiential learning opportunities for our undergraduates, including an innovative Minor in Biomedical Research, senior design projects for engineering students and required internships for many majors, such as forensic science, environmental science and bioinformatics. We encourage our undergraduates to engage in research, and we have numerous programs that support this.

St. Mary’s University has a number of Pre-health Professional Programs that enable qualified undergraduate students to gain entry into dental, medical, pharmacy, and public health programs. St. Mary’s has unique early acceptance programs with Baylor College of Medicine and St. Louis University School of Medicine, and we are also a participating university in the Joint Admission Medical Program. Historically, the acceptance rate of St. Mary’s graduates into medical and dental schools is higher than the state and national averages.

We also have our own nursing department, offering a  B.S. in Nursing (BSN) degree, that is housed on the third floor of our new Blank Sheppard Innovation Center. Our program aims to train innovative and passionate nurses in the Catholic and Marianist traditions by emphasizing mental health and by incorporating community-based service-learning opportunities.

The St. Mary’s School of Science, Engineering and Technology also has a number of graduate programs including masters in engineering, computer science, cybersecurity and medical genomics. Our M.S. Cybersecurity program is currently ranked #5 in the country and is designated by the NSA and Department of Homeland Security as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense.

Our graduates are in high demand by the country’s top graduate and professional schools, as well as regional and national research firms and industry. As a School of Science, Engineering and Technology graduate from St. Mary’s, you will be poised to meet the challenges of rapidly advancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields — a priority for our nation to successfully compete, prosper and be secure in the global community.

We welcome your participation and support in our activities — as a current or prospective student, alumnus, educational or corporate partner or friend of the School. Please feel free to contact me if I may personally be of any assistance to you.
