Welcome
The mission of our department is to provide our students a quality education in the broad subject areas of physics and earth sciences. The faculty is committed to educating students to become qualified graduates ready for graduate studies or to enter the work force as productive adults. Students are encouraged to develop as whole persons, with strong moral and ethical convictions, a strong desire to provide community service, and a strong desire for life-long scholarship. We are also committed to educating the students about their environment and how we can make strides to improve the quality of our environment for future generations. The department contributes to the fulfillment of the mission of the University in furtherance of the educational philosophy of the Society of Mary, whose founder, William Joseph Chaminade, began his educational career (1776-1791) teaching physics in southern France at the College of Mussidan.
These broad areas encompass the important goals we strive to achieve in our students:
- Physics and Earth Science among the sciences and in society.
- Principles and foundations of physics and earth sciences.
- Methods and techniques in experimental science.
- Problem solving.
- Technical communication skills.
