Welcome to the History Department

The History Department at St. Mary’s University is committed to articulating and enriching the broad dialogue between faith and culture expressed in the Catholic Marianist tradition. The History Department is dedicated to offering History Majors and other undergraduates who take history courses an enlightened understanding of the full variety of human cultures through time. The Department’s undergraduate program is hence committed to developing historically literate students who identify themselves with a present which is profoundly linked to cultures and civilizations of the past, students who will be better able to shape a morally-responsible human community in the future.
