Biography

Before devoting her work full time to St. Mary’s University, Mona served as Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership in San Antonio Independent School District. She spent 30 years in public education as a teacher, principal, and district administrator. She is the recipient of the “Legacy of Leadership Award” from the Community for Life Foundation, and the “Change Agent Award” from the San Antonio Council of PTA.

She currently teaches full time in the Department of Education, specifically focusing on Teaching Diverse Populations and Adolescent Development. In addition to her classes, Mona is the Certification Officer for all teacher candidates, and coaches St. Mary’s alumni who are in their first year of teaching.

A proud Rattler, Mona earned both her B.A. in Political Science (1986) and M.A. in Educational Leadership (1999) from St. Mary’s University. When she is not teaching, Mona serves as a consultant/trainer for Texas Education Service Center – Region 20 and VitalSmarts® Leadership Training Company. She enjoys coaching first year principals and working with area school districts to improve campus accountability.
