The Department is very internationally oriented. We teach Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Latin, Portuguese and Spanish, as well as Multinatinational Organizational Studies - MOS - in Spanish and in Portuguese. We have Majors in Spanish (with or withour Teacher Certification), in MOS Spanish and MOS Portuguese. In addition, the Department offers Minors in Spanish and Portuguese. We have several programs that provide students the opportunity to study abroad. We also offer a traditional Secondary School Teacher Certification program in Spanish.
NEWS AND EVENTS![]() Critical Languages Summer ScholarshipThe United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce scholarships available for intensive summer language institutes overseas in thirteen (13) critical need foreign languages for the summer of 2010. Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) institutes provide fully-funded group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven (7) to ten (10) weeks for U.S. citizen undergraduate, Master's and Ph.D. students. Boren Awards provide funding to American students who are pursuing international and language study in world regions critical to U.S. interests, such as Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Middle East. Fellowships are available to graduate students for language study and international research, while undergraduate students are eligible for study abroad scholarships. This past October, Dr. Eva Bueno participated in the South Central Modern Languages Association --SCMLA-- conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In the conference, she chaired the regular session of Luso-Brazilian literature on the 30th, and then participated in a special session, where she presented a discussion of Brazilian cinema with her paper "Revisiting the 'Trickster' Figure in Brazilian Ceinema: 'Bye-bye Brasil' and 'Lisbela e o prisioneiro." |
