  Hands-on Field Education

  Students complete 900 hours* of supervised field education in professional settings, developing skills with diverse populations and communities. Field placements will be in:

  Behavioral health organizations
  Faith-based organizations
  Government agencies
  Health care and community health organizations

  Justice centers
  Nonprofit organizations
  Schools
  Veterans affairs

*450 hours of supervised field education is required for the one-year, Advanced Standing track.

• Degree Tracks

  The Master of Social Work offers two online, asynchronous tracks — a one-year and a two-year track — based on the students’ bachelor’s degree.

  One-year Track – 27 Credit Hours

  The one-year track, known as the Advanced Standing Program, is designed for students with a Bachelor of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program and requires 27 credit hours of course work. The track begins each year during the summer term. Students must complete their bachelor’s degree before the start of the advanced standing program.

  Two-year Track – 57 Credit Hours

  The two-year track is intended for students who hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than social work or a Bachelor of Social Work from a non-accredited program. It requires 57 credit hours of course work, and students may attend full-time or part-time beginning in the fall.

• Concentrations

  Students will choose one of three concentrations: Clinical Social Work, Military Social Work or Integrative Behavioral Healthcare.

  Three elective courses will be chosen to complete the concentration.

  CSWE Accreditation

  The Master of Social Work at St. Mary’s is seeking accreditation by the Council for Social Work Education. Many states, including Texas, require graduation from a CSWE-accredited institution as a qualification for licensure. The program is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements, which ensures that educational credits earned in Texas are accepted for licensure in every state except California.
