The St. Mary’s University Rattler softball team beat Grand Valley State (Mich.) 4-0 Monday to take the NCAA Division II national title.

The team will be arriving in San Antonio tomorrow morning, Tuesday, May 21, at 1:05 a.m. The team will be flying out of Atlanta on Delta flight #4615 and will be arriving in terminal one.

The team will be welcomed home in a celebration at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 21 in the Pecan Grove on the St. Mary’s campus.

The Rattlers won their first four games of the D-II Softball National Championships, being held in Salem, Virginia, but fell on Sunday in the first of two-possible championship games.

On Thursday, St. Mary’s defeated Le Moyne 8-1 and went on to beat Bloomsburg 2-0 on Friday. On Saturday the Rattlers beat Grand Valley State 8-0. On Sunday afternoon St. Mary’s moved into the finals with a 1-0 win over Chico State. On Sunday evening the Rattlers again met the Grand Valley State Lakers, but this time St. Mary’s fell short – losing 0-1 in extra innings.
