Public Administration Minors

Two Minors: A 21 hour minor in Public Careers and a 21 hour minor in International Public Careers. These interdisciplinary minors are available for those majoring in Political Science with a Program Concentration in Public Administration. They are also available to Non-Political Science Majors (see section labeled “Non-Political Science Majors”0. Academic Counseling: counseling is done by the students regular academic advisor. Courses in particular disciplines may be substituted by permission of Political Science chair. Courses must be in the same discipline.

The Public Careers Minor (Political Science Majors)

Courses to be taken in major: 30 hours
PO 1311 American National Government
PO 1312 Texas State and Local Government (or PO 1314 Understanding Politics)
PO 3302 The Legislative Process
PO 3321 Public Administration
PO 3323 Urban Politics
PO 3344 American Political Thought
PO 4333 Constitutional Law II
PO 5300 Internship in Political Science
Plus six (6) advanced hours from appropriate topics to be determined in consultation with the advisor.
Courses to be taken in minor: 21 hours
EC 3340 Public Sector Economics
SC 3361 Urban Sociology
SC 3362 Demography and Ecology
SC 3381 Introductory Statistics
Plus six advanced hours from Advanced Sociology or Economics to be determined in consultation with the advisor
For Social Science requirement in the Core Curriculum, SC 1311, EC 2301, and EC 2303 are to be taken.

Public Careers Minor (Non-Political Science Majors)

Courses to be taken in minor: 21 hours
PO 3321 Public Administration
PO 5300 Internship in Political Science
Plus nine (9) hours from the following:
PO 2310 Political Research Methodology
PO 3302 The Legislative Process
PO 3310 Topics in Political Behavior (when topic is Minority Politics)
PO 3323 Urban Politics
PO 3344 American Political Thought
PO 4333 Constitutional Law II
Plus six (6) hours from the following:
EC 3302 World Economic Geography
EC 3340 Public Sector Economics
EC 3355 Economics of Natural Resources and Environment
SC 3321 Social Issues
SC 3361 Urban Sociology
