Winston F. Erevelles is a Professor of Engineering and the Dean of the School of Science, Engineering, and Technology at St. Mary’s University. Erevelles joined St. Mary's University in 2000. As the chief academic and administrative officer, he is responsible for the School’s academic programs, furthering education innovations, building the School's national and international reputation, and securing the necessary resources through fundraising initiatives and activities. Erevelles has helped raise $6 million to date in partnership with faculty and staff across the School.
Erevelles is also responsible for fostering faculty development in teaching, scholarship and service, as well as promoting undergraduate research, technology-based teaching and learning, and the integration of liberal arts and professional education.
Erevelles previously served at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. There, his tenure included roles as Dean of the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science, and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. He was the founding Director of the PRIME coalition – a partnership delivering innovative manufacturing education and career development in Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Robert Morris, he was the Director of the Manufacturing Engineering program at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan. He raised a total of $7 million at these two institutions to support education and research. His interests are in the areas of automation, industrial robotics, rapid prototyping, reverse engineering, and manufacturing processes. He has worked as a manufacturing engineer and plant manager at Mykron Engineers, India, where he was responsible for machining systems and maintenance operations.
Erevelles earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Bangalore University, India, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Engineering Management (Manufacturing Engineering emphasis) from the University of Missouri-Rolla. He is a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the American Society for Engineering Education, and the American Society for Mechanical Engineers.
Erevelles is as an Adjunct Director of Accreditation for the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET. He served on the commission and its executive committee from 2004 to 2015 and served as Chair of the EAC from 2013 to 2014. He has served as a Manufacturing Engineering Program Evaluator for EAC/ABET since 1997 and is a member of SME’s Accreditation Committee. He serves as a proposal reviewer for the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Louisiana Board of Regents. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Biomed SA, on the Leadership Advisory Council of the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind, the Education Committee of the San Antonio Manufacturers Association, and the Education Committee of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the SME Education Foundation, chair of the Grants Trustee Committee, and as the Secretary to the board. Erevelles has also served on the Board of Directors for KIPP San Antonio.
