Notebook Computer Specifications

Get Connected

St. Mary's University community members benefit from being part of a technology-enhanced learning environment. While you have the flexibility to purchase your notebook from your preferred vendor, you also have the responsibility to select a unit that meets or exceeds the University's hardware and software requirements. Be sure to look for a notebook with the following system specifications.

Recommended system requirements
  • 1.8 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 2.0 GB of system memory
  • 80 GB hard drive
  • Wireless card (802.11 b/g/n)
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with: 256 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • Audio output
In order to take advantage of free University software resources end-users must have one of the following operating systems:
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7
  • Mac OS X*
*Some courses require additional software that is only compatible with Window operating systems.

All computers that connect to the St. Mary’s University network are required to have Anti-virus software that is updated regularly, as well as having the latest security patches applied.
