Alumni Athletics & Convocation Center/Bill Greehey Arena

Bill Greehey - AACC

The 135,000-square-foot center honors the winning traditions of the men’s and women’s Rattler teams. Since its official dedication on Nov. 27, 2000, it has provided comprehensive on-campus wellness and intramural activities for the entire student body.

Along with the 3,800-seat capacity, a hospitality suite overlooks the arena. The Bill Greehey Arena was the first NCAA Division II facility in the country to have video board capability. Two single-faced video boards are located on opposite corners to maximize viewing from anywhere in the arena.

The center is named in recognition of the largest capital gift of $3.1 million made by the St. Mary’s Alumni Association, as well as the dedicated leadership, commitment and personal contributions of capital campaign chairman Bill Greehey, honored in naming the arena.

Rattler Field: Home of St. Mary's Softball

Rattler Field

Rattler Field has been the home of the St. Mary’s University softball team since it’s inception in 1980. Over the last 28 years the complex has been home to two national championship teams.

The Rattlers have hosted and won the Heartland Conference Tournament each of the last three years.

In 2002 St. Mary’s won its second national championship, taking the NCAA Division II crown. The national championship was the second in the history of the program, following the 1986 team that won the NAIA National Championship.

The outfield fence is 200 feet to all fields. The complex has seating for 500 fans and has an adjacent practice field. St. Mary’s has never had a losing record in the facility.

St. Mary’s Soccer Field

St. Mary’s University Soccer Field has been the home of the Rattlers since its first season in 1975. The field is located on the west side of campus between the Alumni Athletics & Convocation Center and V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium. There are bleachers on the east side of the field.

V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium

Located on the west side of the St. Mary’s University campus, V.J. Keefe Memoral Stadium is the home of Rattler baseball. The stadium’s namesake, V.J. Keefe, was one of the city early sports pioneers.

Phase I of construction of the stadium began in 1957, and in 1958 the stadium was dedicated and the monstrous scoreboard, the signature of V.J. Keefe Field for many years, was erected. The stadium was upgraded a few years later to accomodate professional baseball.

The San Antonio Missions played at V.J. Keefe from 1964 until 1994. The dimensions of the facility are 325 down the lines, 360 to the alleys and 400 to center.
