His areas of special interest include Sociological Theory, Sociology of Knowledge, Sociology of Religion, and Social Issues. Dr. Rigney is the author of The Metaphorical Society: An Invitation to Social Theory. Other recent publications include an article in The Futurist on the social implications of artificially-enhanced intelligence and (with Drs. Matz and Abney) a study of the Catholic sharing ethic in The Sociology of Religion. He is currently at work on a book tentatively entitled The Matthew Effect: How Advantage Begets Further Advantage.
