San Antonio – Just three weeks into the new season and the St. Mary’s University women’s soccer program already has seen two members of its talented freshman class leave their mark on the Heartland Conference.

Freshman goalkeeper Felicia Lombardo has been named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday evening. The award comes two weeks after freshman midfielder Jamey Coronado earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Lombardo, who twice came off the bench to start the second half last week, didn’t surrender a goal in two appearances. She totaled eight saves in 90 minutes of action.

The job Lombardo and sophomore Mari Edwards combined to do in the net against East Central University spurred the Rattlers’ 2-0 victory Sunday.

Lombardo is a native of New Braunfels, Texas.

The Rattlers (2-4) return to the field at Lubbock Christian University at 1 p.m. Friday.
