San Antonio – Danny Cantu and Jonathon Cisneros combined for five hits to back up the strong pitching of Ben Odom, who picked up his fourth win of the season, helping 25th-ranked St. Mary’s University to an 8-2 win in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.

Cantu (Jr., Laredo), the reigning Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week, kept up his hot hitting, going a perfect 3-of-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Cisneros (So., San Antonio) also had a big night, going 2-of-3, including a long homerun over the right field wall. The homerun was his ninth of the season.

On the mound Odom (So., Richmond) allowed just two runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out four in 6 2/3 innings. He improved to 4-1 with the win this season. Michael Villarreal (Jr., Eagle Pass) came on in relief and allowed just two base runners, while striking out four in 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Bobby Gonsoulin took the loss for the Javelinas, falling to 2-2.

With the win the Rattlers are now 25-8 overall, while TAMUK fell to 20-18. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they travel to Odessa to face the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in a Heartland Conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
