The St. Mary’s University Black Law Students Association moot court team captured the Rocky Mountain Region title of the National Black Law Students Association Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition on Saturday.

The win qualified the team of third-year law student Marisa Aragon and second-year law student Alicia Grant to compete in the national finals of the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition in March in Portland, Oregon.

“I am extremely proud of these amazing advocates and honored to have been able to work with them,” said Adjunct Professor Ricky Poole, who coached the team.

The Rocky Mountain Region draws teams from BLSA chapters in Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

The St. Mary’s team defeated competitors from the University of Texas School of Law in both the semifinal and final rounds to capture the title of 2015 RMBLSA Regional Champion.

“Marisa and I are excited for the privilege of representing our school,” Grant said. “We will work hard under Ricky’s direction to win nationals in March.”
