Three members of the St. Mary’s University community will be honored Thursday, Jan. 22, with the 2015 Marianist Heritage Award. This year’s recipients are Patricia Garcia, Executive Assistant, Student Development; Lucien Manchester, Ph.D., Professor of Biological Sciences; and Thomas Mengler, J.D., President.

The honorees will be recognized during the Marianist Heritage Mass at 11:10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish. To allow students and faculty to attend, 11:10 and 12:35 classes will be canceled. A reception in Conference Room A of the University Center will follow.

Marianist Heritage Student Leadership recipients Lindsey Johnson, Ryan Muñoz and Karl Wacker also will be honored.

The Marianist Heritage Award recognizes members of the University community who, by their professional lives and personal interactions on campus, devote themselves to our Catholic and Marianist mission.

When it was created, the award focused on the experience of the laity and their growing understanding of the Marianist charism. During the past 30 years, as we have developed mutual responsibility among professed members of the Society of Mary, the Daughters of Mary Immaculate and lay colleagues, the need to recognize the efforts of the entire community emerged. With great respect for the professed, we wish to recognize their continued efforts to fully implement the Mission. Since first presented in 1981, more than 60 of our friends and colleagues have been recognized.
