San Antonio – Claiming her first career weekly award, St. Mary’s guard Jackie Woods’ powerful week has earned her this week’s Heartland Conference Player of the Week honor, the league announced today.
As last year’s conference Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, Woods is continuing to perform for the Lady Rattlers this season. Her recognition this week honors her role in leading the Lady Rattlers to a 2-0 week last week in which she averaged 18 points and 3.5 assists per contest. Against McMurry, Woods went off for a big 23-point effort, going nearly perfect from the floor, hitting 7 of 8 shots and going 7 of 8 from the foul line.
Woods’ award is the second weekly honor for the Rattlers as Morgan Pullins (So., Franklin, Mich.) received St. Mary’s first honor in early December. Woods, a junior guard from San Antonio, is excelling on all fronts for the Rattlers this season.
The 5-foot-7 guard leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per contest, tallying a team-high 232 total points this season. Woods is also second-best in steals with 36 and assists with 45.
With Woods’ help, the Lady Rattlers house the No. 1 rank in conference with an undefeated league record of 6-0 and an overall record of 14-3.
The Rattlers will play provisional conference member Oklahoma Christian University Saturday in Edmond, Okla. at 2 p.m.
