San Antonio – The opening day of the 2012 Heartland Conference Baseball Tournament has been washed out.

Heavy rains swept through the area Thursday morning and are not expected to let up the rest of the day, forcing officials to cancel the two first-round games slated for Thursday at Incarnate Word’s Sullivan Field.

The double-elimination tournament will keep the same schedule as before but with everything pushed back a day, meaning it will now begin with No. 2 seeded St. Edward’s playing No. 3 seeded Newman at 1 p.m. Friday, weather permitting. Top-seeded St. Mary’s and No. 4 seeded Arkansas-Fort Smith will get going at 5 p.m.

Saturday will see games played at 12 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The championship will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday.
