DALLAS – St. Mary’s will need some help in order to make it to the Heartland Conference Tournament.

The Lady Rattlers’ volleyball team fell to Dallas Baptist 3-1 on Thursday night, leaving it a game behind Texas A&M International following the Dustdevils’ upset of St. Edward’s in the battle for the league’s fourth and final playoff spot.

St. Mary’s will wrap up the regular season at St. Edward’s on Saturday, eyeing not only a win but also a Texas A&M International loss in order to try to force a tiebreaker for the remaining playoff spot.

Against Dallas Baptist (18-8, 10-3), St. Mary’s battled back from an early 1-0 hole to even the match at 1-1, only to drop the final two sets behind the strength of Patriot Kristin Secord’s 17 kills.

Kelsey Huber (So., San Antonio) led the Rattlers with 15 kills while Karlie Ortega (Jr., San Antonio) added 11 and hit .216, but it wasn’t enough as Dallas Baptist prevailed 25-20, 18-25, 25-20, 25-19.

Victorria Martinez (So., Arlington, Texas) had a team-high 33 digs while Huber added 22. Mikayla Bass (Fr., Coppell, Texas) posted 24 assists and Allie Murray (Sr., San Antonio) added 21.
