EDMOND, Okla. – The Rattlers may have outshot provisional Heartland Conference contender Oklahoma Christian University, but the Eagles capitalized on more shots.
The Rattlers (3-8-1, 2-3-1 in conference) fell to a 5-0 shutout Thursday on the Eagles’ (5-6) home field in their first of their six remaining games of the season, all of which are away.
The determining factor in Thursday’s loss – the Rattlers’ first road loss of the year – was the Eagles’ ability to connect on five of their 12 shots on goal, while the Rattlers had 11 shots on goal out of their 21 total shots but remained scoreless. A double-digit saves-day commended the Eagles’ keeper, who pulled down 11 saves on the day that also denied the Rattlers a goal, and the win.
The Rattlers’ own keeper, Patrick Kasperitis (RS-Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas), came away with seven saves on the day to help combat the Eagles’ sharp-shooters including Domenico De Grazia, who recorded two goals Thursday.
The Rattler seniors led in looks, starting with Andrew Carrasco (Corpus Christi, Texas) with a team-high five shots and four on goal, followed by Aaron Stares (Swindon, England) and Anthony Bustos (Helotes, Texas) with two shots on goal apiece. Josh Stevens (Jr., San Antonio), Alexis Santamaria (Fr., San Antonio) and Jack Wolf (Fr., Richardson, Texas) all tallied one shot on goal.
The Rattlers continue on the road to play conference Newman University on Saturday in Wichita, Kan. at 2:30 p.m.
