San Antonio – It has been a year of firsts for St. Mary’s ace Emily Brittain.

Earlier this season, the sophomore from Corpus Christi, Texas threw her first no-hitter. And then came her first perfect game in a victory over Texas-Permian Basin last week.

But Tuesday’s news was nothing new for Brittain, as the Heartland Conference announced she had been named the league’s Pitcher of the Week on the heels of throwing her first career perfect game.

It marked the fourth time this season that Brittain picked up the award and the eighth overall in her two years as a Rattler.

Brittain, last year’s Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year, maintained a 0.64 ERA over three appearances last week, going 2-0 with five strikeouts for the week. She is 9-3 this season with a 2.68 ERA and 63 strikeouts.

The Rattlers are 21-15, including 5-2 in conference play. They play at Angelo State in a doubleheader Tuesday.
