San Antonio – Last week, no Texas A&M-Kingsville batter could chase down what St. Mary’s ace Emily Brittain was throwing.

On Monday, no one could catch the sophomore in the race for Heartland Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week honors.

The Rattler pitcher received the award Monday, the league announced, following a week in which she threw her first career no-hitter to go along with 11 strikeouts in a dominant showing against the Javelinas.

Brittain ended up making two other starts during the week, including another win, finishing with a 1.69 ERA and 15 strikeouts. She didn’t give up an earned run over her first two starts of the week as the Rattlers battled in the 2012 Best Western Premier Spring Fling, the annual tournament hosted by Texas Woman’s University.

St. Mary’s (10-7) will be back in action Wednesday, when it commutes across town to play at Incarnate Word at 7 p.m.
