DUNCAN, Okla. – Two of the newest additions to Rattler golf are once again leading St. Mary’s to a top finish.

Freshmen Alex Bissaro (San Antonio) and Kirby Gorzell (San Antonio) are both in the Top 10 after the first round of the Territory Classic, with Bissaro looking at a possible top-place finish.

New to St. Mary’s but certainly not new to the game of golf, Bissaro is tied in third place for the Territory Classic, finishing with an on-par 72 for the first round. Bissaro is just two strokes behind current first-placer Alejandro Flores of Incarnate Word.

Just as new to St. Mary’s as Bissaro, Gorzell is also priming the Rattlers for a top finish as he is currently tied in eighth place with a 74 for the first round.

Gorzell and Bissaro’s sharp first round has St. Mary’s currently in fifth place out of the 12 teams competing with a team score of 303. It’s not a far reach to first place for the Rattlers, as Texas A&M-Commerce currently leads with a 292 followed by Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word, both with team scores of 297. Just above the Rattlers is Midwestern State in fourth place with a score of 300.

Tied for 26th place are Shawn Bennett (Jr., Marion, Texas) and another newbie, Jason Slater-Barrera (Fr., San Antonio), each of whom posted a 76. Rounding out St. Mary’s is Matthew Van Winkle (So., Castroville, Texas), tied for 59th place with a score of 81 followed by Chris Contreras (Jr., San Antonio) in 62nd place with an 82.

Bissaro and the rest of the Rattlers’ trek for a top finish continue tomorrow in Duncan, Okla. for the conclusion of the Territory Classic.
