San Antonio – The St. Mary’s baseball team’s season opener against Newman University has been rescheduled from Friday to 12 p.m. Sunday due to expected weather conditions.

The Rattlers’ season will now open up with a previously scheduled doubleheader against Newman at 12 p.m. Saturday at Wolff Stadium – the team’s temporary home-away-from home while awaiting its new facility to be built.

The Rattlers, who rolled through the Heartland Conference with a 27–3 record last season, has been selected as the Heartland’s preseason favorite, receiving all 14 first–place votes in a poll of the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors, placing them as the clear–cut favorite heading into the 2012 season.
St. Mary’s enjoyed an unforgettable season in 2011, going 47–10 to earn the best single–season winning percentage (.825) in school history. Having won both the Heartland regular season and tournament championships, the Rattlers hosted the NCAA Division II South Central tournament as the third–ranked team in the nation.

After being eliminated from Regional Tournament in the upset of Southeastern Oklahoma State and Central Missouri, St. Mary’s still remains in the national spotlight this season, ranking No.4 in the nation in College Baseball Lineup’s preseason poll.

Starting their season with conference play right off the bat, St. Mary’s has all the odds on its side for a promising year.
