AUSTIN, Texas – The Lady Rattlers’ defense stood strong for as long as it could, turning away one shot after another for more than 93 minutes Thursday.

But the St. Edward’s women’s soccer team finally connected in overtime in the latest edition of “Battle of the Saints.”

St. Mary’s dropped a tough, 1-0 contest to the Hilltoppers in OT, as Rachel Murray struck from 10 yards out in the 94th minute for the winning goal — the first goal given up by St. Mary’s goalkeeper Paola Ostos in nearly 280 minutes.

St. Mary’s (5-3-2, 2-1 in Heartland Conference) was credited with just a single shot in the game, an errant strike from Leia Kirch (Jr., Carrollton, Texas). St. Edward’s (8-1-1, 3-0-1) hammered away 15 shots, including five on goal before 378 fans.

Ostos (So., El Paso, Texas) had four saves in the game.

The Lady Rattlers will take on Dallas Baptist on the road at 1 p.m. Saturday.
