EDMOND, Okla. – As the conditions improved, so, too, did the scores turned in by the St. Mary’s men’s golf team at the UCO/Kickingbird Classic.

Having battled through wind chills in the 30s and 30-35 mile-per-hour winds in the first round, the Rattlers sliced 24 strokes off their first-round total to soar up the chart to a tie for 12th place after two rounds.

The third round will be held Tuesday.

Jeff Rein (Sr., San Antonio) is tied for 12th individually after shooting a two-round total of 149. Meanwhile, Matt Vela (Sr., San Antonio), playing hurt, trimmed 12 strokes off his first-round score with a 71 in Round 2, helping the Rattlers post a 618 as a team as the weather cleared up as the tournament progressed.

Central Oklahoma, the tournament’s host, leads the field at 594, while Cameron’s Jason Timmis tops the individual leaderboard at 144.

For St. Mary’s, Sam Jernigan (Jr., San Antonio) was one of four golfers to shoot in the 70s in the second round, finishing at 157. Chris Becker (Jr., San Antonio) carded a 158.
