San Antonio – They’d likely never buy it as much of an excuse, but consider that the St. Mary’s men’s and women’s tennis squads went nearly two weeks without playing a competitive match that counted entering Friday’s showdown with Incarnate Word.

Rusty? Probably.

Getting back onto the courts for the first time in what must have seemed like an eternity, the women fell 8-1 while the men dropped their match 8-1 at Incarnate Word.

Rattlers No. 1 singles player Cimen Soy (Sr., Gothenburg, Sweden) topped UIW’s Audrey Hernandez 6-4, 6-1, while second-seeded Angelique De Oliveira (Jr., France) narrowly fell to Brianda Navarro 7-5, 6-4.

On the men’s side, No. 1 singles player Marcin Marczewski (Jr., Warsaw, Poland) beat UIW’s Leury Arias 6-4, 6-4. Andrej Klipa (So., Belgrade, Serbia) also narrowly fell, 6-3, 6-2, to Chris Lawson.

Jake Williams (Jr., Dallas) and Marczewski teamed up nicely in doubles action, but dropped their match to Arias and Lawson by the score of 8-3.
