LAREDO, Texas – Avenging St. Mary’s two victories on Friday, Texas A&M International bounced back to top the Lady Rattlers 3-2 in extra innings on Saturday.

The Dustdevils scored the winning run on a dropped third strike, bringing in Esmerelda Gonzalez from third base in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The victory moved A&M International (23-25, 10-2 in Heartland Conference) into a tie for first place with St. Mary’s (29-15, 10-2), and also denied St. Mary’s coach Donna Fields of career win No. 600. She will get another crack at the milestone when the Lady Rattlers play a doubleheader at Tarleton State on Tuesday.

Against TAMIU, St. Mary’s overcame a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the sixth on second baseman Sarah Perez’s two-run blast to left field.

But the Dustdevils evened the score in the bottom of the frame, eventually paving the way for extra innings.

Perez finished 2 for 3 with one run score, while designated player Alex Garcia (So., San Antonio) scored a run on an 0-for-2 day.

Crystal Keller was tagged with the loss after giving up one run in three innings of relief.
