The St. Mary’s University Opera Workshop and Drama Department are bringing Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Tony Award-winning Into the Woods to the University’s Reinbolt Theatre for a series of dates beginning March 24. The musical is directed by drama Professor Adam Burke, with musical direction under Professor Jacob Cantu, director of the Opera Workshop.

The tales of Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Little Red Riding Hood share something in common: they are all stories in which a boy or girl wished for more and their wishes came true. But getting what they wanted does not mean happy endings. Into the Woods is the story of what came after those ‘happily ever afters.’ Stephen Sondheim’s wickedly witty score comes alive to ask, “Are you certain what you wish is what you want?” Revisit favorite fairy tales, and see what might have happened after the storybook ended.

Into the Woods will be performed on St. Mary’s University campus in Reinbolt Theatre on March 24-25, 27, 30-31, and April 1-2. All performances are at 7:30 p.m. except the Sunday, March 27 performance, which is at 2:30 p.m. and features a talk-back with the cast after the performance. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for faculty and staff, senior citizens and military, and $10 for students. Although tickets are available at the door, the venue fills up quickly.
