WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A three-run second inning was all the support St. Mary’s pitcher Maricela Bissaro needed Friday, as the Lady Rattlers opened the Midwestern State Invitational in style with a 3-1 victory over Central Missouri.

Right fielder Shelly Lee (So., San Antonio) tripled down the right-field line to drive in two runs in the inning, while third baseman Chelsea Wenske (Sr., Victoria, Texas) drove in the third run on a sacrifice fly.

It gave St. Mary’s its fourth straight victory, but the Lady Rattlers couldn’t maintain the momentum against tournament-host Midwestern State, falling 2-1 hours after beating Central Missouri.

Midwestern State scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth.

Outfielder Lauren Miller (Sr., Baytown, Texas) went 4 for 4 against Central Missouri, while first baseman Jared Gonzalez had two hits in four at-bats for the Lady Rattlers (21-14).

Against Midwestern State, outfielder Katie Nichols (So., San Marcos, Texas) drove in the only run for St. Mary’s on a solo blast in the top of the fourth. She finished 1 for 3 in the game.

St. Mary’s will be back in action in the tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday, when it takes on Delta State. The Rattlers also play Central Missouri again at 4 p.m. Saturday.
