ODESSA, Texas – The St. Mary’s men’s soccer team outshot Texas Permian-Basin but couldn’t connect in a 2-0 loss on the road Friday.

The Rattlers (2-6-0) had six shots on goal to the Falcons’ (3-5) four and kept the game at a stalemate until the last five minutes of the game.

Texas Permian-Basin’s (1-1 in Heartland Conference conference) Tyler Pate connected in the 85th minute with a goal off a rebound that he squeezed in the bottom-left corner of the net, changing the scoreboard for the first time in the game at 1-0.

Forty-five seconds before the buzzer, Falcon Austin James shot from 30 yards straight on off a deflected pass, connecting in the bottom-left corner of the net for a final score of 2-0 in the Rattlers’ third conference loss of the season.

Returning to the field after sitting out in last Sunday’s game against St. Edward’s due to an injury was regular starter Adam “Chuy” Muro (Jr., San Antonio). Muro had one shot on goal, increasing his season total to four. Michael Hasbach (Sr., Colleyville, Texas) and Eduardo Serrano (So., Dallas), whom along with Muro scored in the victory over St. Edward’s along with Muro, joined Muro again on the stats sheet with one shot on goal from Hasbach and two from Serrano.

Aaron Stares (Jr., Swindon, England) and Zach Strater (Fr., Carrollton, Texas) also got looks at the net with one shot on goal each. Goalkeeper Patrick Kasperitis (RS-So., Corpus Christi, Texas) had two saves for the Rattlers (1-3 in conference), bringing his save total for the season to 27 after stepping up to protect the net when an injury caused David Schmelzer (So., Castroville, Texas) to be sidelined for the season.

The Rattlers travel to Wichita Falls, Texas for their next match against Midwestern State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
