AUSTIN, Texas – Striking twice in the second half Friday, St. Edward’s topped St. Mary’s 3-0 in men’s soccer, avenging the Rattlers’ victory over the Hilltoppers earlier this season.

St. Mary’s goalkeeper Patrick Kasperitis (RS-So., Corpus Christi, Texas) recorded five saves and midfielder Omar Sanchez (Fr., San Antonio) led the Rattlers with three shots on a day they were outshot 16-7.

St. Edward’s struck first with a goal in the 18th minute, and later tacked on back-to-back goals 52 seconds apart in the 53rd minute.

With the loss, St. Mary’s dropped to 3-11 and 2-5 in Heartland Conference play. St. Edward’s improved to 4-7-4, with a 2-3-1 league record.

St. Mary’s will return to action Wednesday when it plays cross-town rival Incarnate Word on the Cardinals’ campus at 7 p.m.
