San Antonio – For the second time this season, St. Mary’s senior pitcher Greg Herbst has been named the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week.
The honor, announced by the league Monday, was given to Herbst after the San Antonio native struck out 12 in a 1-0 shutout of Angelo State last week.
Showing why Major League Baseball scouts keep showing up to V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium to gauge his performances, Herbst scattered five hits and walked one in his only appearance of the week.
Herbst, a graduate of O’Connor High School, leads the Rattlers (21-6 overall) in ERA (1.99) and strikeouts (43).
