San Antonio – Always as good in the classroom as he is on the course, St. Mary’s senior men’s golfer Matt Vela has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team.
Vela, a senior from San Antonio MacArthur High School, made the First Team after maintaining a 3.36 grade-point average as an exercise and sport science major.
On the course, Vela was named the Heartland Conference Men’s Golfer of the Year after a stellar senior season that saw him hold a 73.48 scoring average over 12 tournaments.
For the season, Vela posted four top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes. He helped the Rattlers earn their ninth straight regional bid, all under coach Wes Skidmore.
