SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – St. Mary’s women’s tennis standout Angelique De Oliveira advanced to the second round of the USTA/ITA Regional Championships in the 64 draw, while Kelly Cooper and Denissia Gonzalez also advanced in the B draw Friday.
De Oliveira (Sr., Wattrelos, France) defeated Newman’s Courtney Dold 6-2, 6-3 before being taken down by SBU’s Mehak Singh 6-3, 6-3 in the second round.
Valentine Lambrechts (Jr., Belgium) was swept by Abilene Christian’s Julia Mongin 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round.
In the B draw, Cooper (Sr., San Antonio) beat LU’s Sarah Sharpe 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the second round, as did Gonzalez (Fr., Houston) following a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Newman’s Jess Brown.
In doubles action, Lambrechts and De Oliveira fell to Dallas Baptist’s Gennissen/Innes 6-3, 6-2.
Tournament action will resume Saturday.
