Lubbock, Texas – Emilie Snelson found the back of the net in the 107th minute to give the St. Mary’s University women’s soccer team a wild 2-1, double-overtime victory against Lubbock Christian University on Friday.

Snelson, a junior midfielder from Fairview, Texas, rebounded a loose ball in the box to score the winning goal. Freshman midfielder Ashlyn Leighton (Houston) was credited with the assist, her second of the match.

Sophomore defender Leia Kirch (Carrollton, Texas) scored the Rattlers’ first goal, taking a breakout pass from Leighton and scoring from 10 yards out from the side to take a 1-0 lead.

Lubbock Christian’s Stacy Ann Johnson evened the score on a free kick in the 69th minute.

The game marked the second straight multi-goal performance for the Rattlers (3-4), whose non-conference victory secured their first winning streak of the young season.

Rattlers goalkeeper Mari Edwards (So., Apex, N.C.) didn’t allow a goal in 45 minutes of play. Sophomore Felicia Lombardo, a New Braunfels player who is the Heartland Conference’s reigning Defensive Player of the Week, yielded one goal to go along with three saves in nearly 62 minutes of action.

St. Mary’s will return to the field Sunday, when it faces West Texas A&M at 12 p.m. in Canyon, Texas.
