Odessa, Texas – The University of Texas of the Permian Basin took an early 8-0 lead and held off a late St. Mary’s University rally for a 9-5 victory in Heartland Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon.

For the third straight game in the series, the Rattlers outhit the Falcons, 14-10, but stranded 10 baserunners in the game. The Rattlers were shut out for over seven innings by UTPB starting pitcher Mario Urena, before rallying for 5 runs over the last two innings.

Courtney Behrend (Sr., Comfort, Texas) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing 5 runs on 3 hits and 6 walks, while striking out 5. Urena improved to 4-5, allowing just 3 runs on 9 hits in 7.2 innings of work.

Offensively, the Rattlers had eight different players pick up at least one hit, including five with two or more. Tyler Migl (So., San Antonio) smacked his third homerun of the season and had 2 base hits in the game.

With the loss, St. Mary’s fell to 21-10 overall and 19-9 in Heartland Conference play. UTPB improved to 22-11, 22-10. The Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday, when they host Texas A&M University-Kingsville at V.J. Keefe Stadium at 6 p.m.
