Denton – Texas Woman’s University limited St. Mary’s University to just eight hits in two games and swept a non-conference doubleheader against the Rattlers, 3-0, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon.

Carly Case improved to 15-5 in the first game, scattering two hits over a seven-inning complete game effort. Case did not allow a walk and struck out 5. The only serious threat for the Rattlers came in the fifth inning. Katie Nichols (Fr., San Marcos, Texas) singled with one out and Chelsea Wenske (Jr., Shiner, Texas) was hit by a pitch. However, Case settled down and retired the next two batters to end the threat. Taryn Munoz (Sr., Bulverde, Texas) took the loss, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 3.

In the second game, the Pioneers scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning to break open a close game. The Pioneers smacked three straight homeruns to lead off the inning and the Rattlers were unable to score for the second straight game. The Rattlers did pick up 6 hits in the loss. Arlynda Flores (Sr., Uvalde, Texas) took the loss, falling to 3-2 this season.

With the losses, St. Mary’s is now 26-12 this season. The Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday, April 6, when they travel to Abilene, Texas, to face Abilene Christian University in a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
