San Antonio – The All-Heartland Conference Men’s Soccer Team was released Thursday morning, and there was no shortage of Rattlers that made the final cut.

Six St. Mary’s University players made the second team, including midfielder Sean Strater, midfielder Rodrigo Ramos, defender Joseph Diaz, defender David Anthony Oliver, defender Robson Pritchett and goalkeeper David Schmelzer (Fr., Castroville, Texas).

Strater (Sr., Carrollton, Texas) anchored the Rattlers with his work ethic, scoring two goals, both of which proved to be game-winners. He started 13 of 14 games, recording a total of 23 shots.

Bouncing back from a knee injury that sidelined him nearly all of last year, Ramos (Jr., The Woodlands, Texas) provided a steadying presence for St. Mary’s. He started 13 of 16 games, finishing with seven shot attempts.

Diaz (Sr., San Antonio), who transferred to St. Mary’s from the University of Texas following his freshman year, earned second-team recognition for the second consecutive season. He started all 17 games for the Rattlers, taking 19 shots, including seven on goal.

Oliver (So., San Antonio), a newcomer to St. Mary’s after transferring this fall from Houston Baptist, totaled two goals and a pair of assists for six points this season.

Pritchett (Sr., McKinney, Texas), a fiery player known for his fearless approach, took six shots while solidifying the Rattlers’ defense. Meanwhile, Schmelzer (Fr., Castroville, Texas) took over in the goal midway through the year, allowing 2.24 goals per game over nine starts. He totaled 53 saves with a .736 save percentage.

The 26-member all-conference team was voted on by the conference’s head men’s soccer coaches.

St. Mary’s finished in fourth place with a 2-6 record in Heartland Conference play. The Rattlers were 4-13 overall.
