San Antonio – Only a few matches were able to get in for the St. Mary’s University women’s tennis team before heavy rains hit the Trinity University campus in the Trinity Women’s Tennis Quad Tournament on Friday.
Rachel Gutierrez (So., San Antonio) was edged by Carolina Vela 6-3, 1-6, (12-10), while Anita Qureshi (So., San Antonio) fell to Trinity’s Arianna Rose by the scores of 6-0, 6-4.
Kelly Cooper (Jr., San Antonio) pushed Jennifer Betancourt to the brink before losing 7-5, 7-6 (6), while Trinity’s Megan Jackson defeated Huong Huynh (Jr., Houston) 6-2, 6-1.
Cimen Soy (Sr., Gothenburg, Sweden) also narrowly fell, losing to Ivana Katavic 6-4, 2-6, (10-7).
Competition will resume Saturday at Trinity.
