Wichita, Kan. – St. Mary’s University scored 25 runs in two games to roll past Newman University, 10-2, 15-8, in Heartland Conference softball action Thursday afternoon at Newman University Softball Field.

In the first game, after falling behind 2-1 in the first inning, the Rattlers pulled away for the eight-run victory. Alyssa Alfaro (Jr., Eagle Pass, Texas) smashed her third homerun of the season and went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored in the victory. Taryn Munoz (Sr., Bulverde, Texas) picked up her 13th victory of the season on the mound, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings of work. Crystal Keller (Fr., Castroville, Texas) earned her first save with a scoreless inning of work.

St. Mary’s turned up the offensive pressure in the second game, smashing four homeruns to rout the Jets. Lauren Miller (Jr., Baytown, Texas) smacked her first two homeruns of the season and went 5-for-5 with 6 RBI and 2 runs scored. Eight of the Rattlers nine starters had at least one hit in the game, with six players totaling two or more base hits. Alfaro hit her fourth homerun of the season and second of the day, going 3-for-5 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Arlynda Flores (Sr., Uvalde, Texas) improved to 3-1 on the mound this season, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks, while striking out a season-high 10 batters.

With the wins St. Mary’s is now 21-9 overall and 8-0 in Heartland Conference play this season. Newman fell to 0-10, 0-9. The teams will wrap up their three-game series with a single game on Friday, starting at
